Glenn Waggner, Painting
Glenn Waggner was born and raised in Southern California. Growing up in the beach
communities, he was immersed in the 1970s surfing and skateboarding culture.
Practicing architecture has Waggner fascinated by cityscapes. In his painting practice
he subtly and humorously manipulates the reality of beach towns, restaurants, bars and
other urban atmospheres. Waggner enables the viewer to feel, for a moment, grounded
in the realism and then dreamily adrift in the perplexity of each scene. Waggner’s
paintings combine landscape, architecture and figures in vastly alternate worlds of
overlapping nature and the built environment. Elegant, partially silhouetted figures,
existential surfers and groups of people or places are all featured in their illusive
environments. Glenn is represented by Brittany Davis Gallery in Ojai, CA.
